Hey there did a search and could not find anything related. I apologize if this has already been posted.
I have a 99 RK. This engine on this bike is polished and not chrome. I was not the original owner and there is some neglect. I have cleaned all the motor parts up as much as possible however not really shiny and new. Good news is I am going to embrace this. I love it sort of that industrial look. In fact this winter I will be painting the bike a flat blue and all should look great. Now my question. I have some chrome parts on the bike that are just too chrome. I want to dull this chrome to match the polished look. Does anyone have any ideas? I have heard steel wool and WD40 but open to other tips. I am already powder coating what I want powder coated I want my remaining parts to be that polished look to finish out my bike.
Two things I'd try is scotchbright, or low pressure glass beading. Some skill is required for the later. Chrome is only a few tenths of a thou thick.

Yes I thought about using some rice hulls and low pressure beading as well, as the chrome is very thin as you mentioned this may cause some issues. Thanks for the tips I will let you know. Good think about my bike is the guy I bought it from added a ton of chrome I removed. I will try the steel wool and post just in case anyone else is going to boycott the chrome...
Not a fan of steel wool myself. It will embed into the chrome and rust if it gets wet. Careful use of 2000-3000 grit sandpaper would be my choice. Watch all the sharp edges as extra pressure on these areas and you will go through and I can guarantee you will, so have you considered nickle plate instead, or blasting the pipes first and then chroming will give a low shine as well. Talking to a chromer wouldn't hurt. There's a ton of different processes out there that might do exactly what you are looking for and remain durable.
