Has anyone replaced the factory stereo with a high end stereo?
Does it work? I mean do all the hand controlls still work with any other brands?
Do other brands fit or is there some fabrication involved?
I'd like the hear if anyone did this, what brand stereo they went with, what model?
I jave an 08 streetglide. Thanks
I have been doing some research on putting aftermarket stereo into a '87 and I have found a couple companies that do stuff for the newer ones like yours but not mine. Check Hogtunes, Biketronics, PAC, and there is others on e-bay and if you search the web there are others on it too. There are a bunch of stereo companies making ones for cars that have wired remotes and the Biketronics and PAC adapters help them talk to your hand controls. The biketronics makes use of the Vehicle Speed Module to adjust volume louder as you go faster, the PAC does not. I haven't gotten ANY help from the Biketronics tech line and I feel their web site is very poor. On the other end of the spectrum PAC E-mailed me all the specs and wiring diagrams!!!! VERY helpful. If you search the forums (it is a box to the upper right that says "Search This Thread/Forum" you can find threads with more on the newer ones from someone a lot smarter than me Firecap501 was someone who responded to me and seems like he has a lot of great info. good luck!!! If I can help you more just message me.
You will get a ton of information if you post your questions in the "Touring" forum.
Biketronics.com offers a plug n' play module that is compatible with Sony and Pioneer headunits. Visit their website for compatible headunits. A ton of HDF'ers (myself included) use this--excellent folks to deal with.
Another similar product is offered by Hawg-wired. A bit more expensive than Biketronics, with similar compatibility for headunits.
Try the Touring forum and you will get a lot of responses and the search function will also be useful as mentioned above.
