I just bought the detachable backrest and docking kit for my 06 fltr. I thought this would be a 1 hour job, no problems. Instead its gotten me very confused as to how it goes together. The photos and diagrams in the instructions are pretty useless and Im stumped. Can anyone take a few photos of the docking kit on the bike and of the sissybar removed so I can see what is attached to that? Also, am I the only one that finds this confusing? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help but I have a Road Glide. I have hardbags and I have to run my lines for my rear air shocks and hook up in a different location. Im also wondering if I have to remove airline completly and refill with air after I re route the lines.
Im still looking.....Anyone with a touring model that could post some large, close up photos of their backrest removed and rear fender docking hardware installed? Im still stumped and I cant bear bringing it to a dealer to have installed.
I looked at the bikes in his showroom and none were equipped with the removable one either.
i did this job on my 2006 super glide.you must install docking kit first.you will be taking off fender strut bolts and replacing inner fender docking kistruts with new one and rebolting the side plates bolts with docking kit parts, also you will do a little rewiring.took me all day.
just installed the docking hardware and turn signal relocator kit on my street bob. anyone else that did this, are the rear docking mounts on your bikes flexing a little ? the stalk is tightened all the way to the backing plate but the stalk flexes and the recess cover will spin on me if i turn it by hand.
I installed the docking kit last week. First don't follow the instructions completely. I did not relocate the air valve. If you don't you'll just have to remove the bar to gain access to the valve. The biggest confusion is with the spacer washers. I didn't use the thick spacers at all and bolted the rear bag mount directly to the new rear braket without any spacer between them. I followed the directions on the front mount and the locating arms. To me the important thing is not to stress the bags out of shape. The kit is for a number of models and not all parts are needed.
