bike just dies

I had trouble with my 2000 RG shutting off on me and it gave me a fit chasing it down. The bike would run fine for a while then it would shut off at the worst possible times. Some times it would happen on acceleration and sometimes it would quit every few seconds and at times might go 20 miles without quitting. I never got a code when it happened but after a lot of frustration I finally tracked my problem down to a faulty kill switch. I ended up finding the problem with the tone function on my Fluke multimeter. It would indicate that the switch would break contact for just a fraction of a second which was just long enough to interupt the ignition circuit and shut the eng. off. On mine the lights never went out so I knew tthe problem was'nt in the elect. system. After replacing the kill switch/start button assy. the problem was eliminated. Don't know if that is your problem but it's a thought. Good luck & safe ridin.

My wife asked me while workin on the bike one day before isolating the bad switch if it could be a bad kill switch & I said NAH! don't think so. Boy was I wrong!
. It took a lot of chasin my tail before I finally determined that she had hit the nail on the head. Hope it helps you in some way to track down your problem.

my 2007 Road King would quit at about the same distance of riding occasionally. One day when it quit i heard a squealing sound. It was the gas cap vent sticking. New cap cured the problem. Try riding the bike without the cap. I taped a small rag over the filler opening to limit splashing.
