Ha jk I need help from anyone for a little project I am going to do. So I bought the HD skull gas cap, but of course it is in chrome. I am not a big fan of chrome and nor is my Iron. I want to paint it flat black, but the chrome is super slick. The paint is not going to catch so I need to add some texture to the gas cap with sandpaper I am assuming. My question is what grit sandpaper do I need to use? After painting it flat black I still want the gas cap to have a smooth surface. How do I go about keeping the texture smooth after painting it. Thanks for you help guys, much appreciated
This is what I want the finished product to look like. This is the same gas cap just paint flat black not chrome...

Reason: Picture
Have it powder coated with satin or flat black paint. Very durable and will resist gas much better than any spray-can paint you can apply.
Other than that, lightly sand the chrome off with 800 grit, hit it with self etching primer and a several coats of paint and wet sand each coat smooth with 1200 ( I think).
