Default Help...BClem...like your information

I saw your response to the gear oil for transmissions. Bel-ray vs. Red line.
I am installing the 6-speed gear set and will run synthetic but what about the
break in period? Should I run regular petrolium fluid for the break in and swap it out for the Red-Line after 500 miles or what do you think?

No, you can use any lube in your gearbox that your heart desires. The break-in that is associated with an engine is not applicable to a gearbox since the 'seating' (such as rings) has no relevance.

Locate a source for Red Line Shockproof or MTL Gear Oil. You can extend the exchange period by double with either of these lubes, but then again; as your heart desires....

Just keep records of your oil application, sales receipts and dates. No-one can dispute proof.

Default Breaking in my 6-speed

Thanx for the response. I do see about doing a lube change after 500 miles in the
instructions, so I guess use what I am going to use and think of it as a way of
cleaning out the gear set and by changing the gear oil after 500 miles it would remove any debrie or ? from the gears. I didnt think about the reason why we break in motors and why that wont apply in a gear box. So thank you again and I will let you know
how it went together.

Yes, an initial change of oil at about 500 miles is a way of ridding the box of the assemblers hair, scabs and skin (if he wasn't careful and tidy). Seriously: there are lots of small pieces of metal associated with the machine work done in the bearbox and gearing and etc. that are missed in the clean-up of manufacture. Most are very small but still should not be allowed to become impaled into a gear tooth face or bearing roller or race.

I'm thinking hard about this six speed! I'm developing a severe case of: "I want one."

Thanks,
BClem
