I have a question. I own a 1200 custom sportster. I live in the UK and for probably two months of the year my bike pretty much sits in the garage. This is my first winter & I'm scared that the cold weather might do some damage to all the chrome ect. Apart from giving it a really good clean then putting a dust sheet over it n leaving it in my garage.. is there anything else i can do to protect the engine/chrome??
Change your engine oil before you leave it sit for those two months. The acid build-up in the oil due to gasoline combustion will etch the bearings where the ***** and rollers contact their races. Minute they may be for the period of time but any etching is too much when it can be avoided. Your chrome is protected with a coating of silicone spray lube such as CRC 6-66 or similar.
Makes you sad to leave her sit for a while doesn't it!
