Some of my friends have said the same things to me. I just tell em to **** off, hehehe... they just believe the old myths, and the BS that imports are somehow more reliable.
Truth be told... even if Harleys WERE oil leaking/burning, rattle-apart crapcans that broke down every day, I'd STILL get one... why? Because it's a HARLEY! It's ALL about the mojo, man... and metric bikes just AIN'T got it! [:'(]

Usually it's the nimrod on it!

Buy it man you want be sorry. I'll bet you will get a greater since of satisfaction and pride from anything else on the market,WHY because it's a Harley. I have one with over 6000 miles on it with no leak's and it's smoooooth.
I am getting ready at the age of 47 to purchsae my first Harley. I am wanting the 2005 Heritage Softail Classic. I have always had Hondas up to this point. Now my friends that still ride Hondas tell me even the new Harleys leak oil
Sounds like your "friends" are all Harley wannabees. How many of them have even ridden a new Harley?
Just resently traded my 02 Vtx 1800 in for an 05 Road King Custom. Been riding since early 80's and this is my first HD. I liked the X well enough. But I love the Custom. Get the Heritage, you'll forget about the $$ as soon as you twist the throttle and head down the road.
12stones and clammy thanks for the welcome. I'm surprised you both picked up on the name. I've had it for many years and most folks just say...huh? Unless they have seen me. Just finished my left sleeve about 2 months ago. Right is about half done. Obsessions are my hobbies...bikes....ink....drink....to name a few.
