Default Touch up Painting tips....PLEASE.....

I scratched two thin lines about 2 inch's long on the side lid of my saddel bag on my 09 Glide.

I got the Sunglow red T.U. paint with base coat from the dealer. No matter how gently I try to touch up these two scratches it still looks like HELL!!!

Anyone have any tips to make this a little less painless to me and my eyes?

I got a tip from an old time vette owner who said to use the torn off end of a match.

I tried it on my vette and the touch up was barely noticable, were you not aware of the problem area you would not be able to tell.

The secret is to use very little paint and dab it rather than trying to apply in the paint brush fashion.

No I didnt have a clue. Thought I did...but I didnt.
Now I have two Red stripes that look like (as you said) too much paint.

I heard that I could rub rubbing compound over this area to thin out the paint. but before I do more damage.........I'm looking for some more specifics on how to "at least" make this touch up/scratch(s) less noticable.

Let me ask you. Did it go through the paint? Sometimes it lookslike that , but it is actually a white scratch, which is just the clear. Alot of times you can wet sand the area , and polish it back out..

Nah it went through. I was half awake and backing out of the garage not looking behind me and slightly scraped against the brick of the house.

I went down to the first level under the red paint....it was a white undercoating.

Gotchya. Well, if the paint is already on there, there's really not a lot you can do besides sanding that small area down flat.Touching up is really a hard thing to do, and make it look good, since the base color has clear over it. And the clear makes the color look different.
