My cap did the same thing on my 06 Heritage. A buddy of mine gave me a big o-ring to put under the cap. It worked but I really did not like it. I turned the cap upside down and put glue into the ratchet mechanism. It has worked well for a year now. Just do not tighten it up so much that you brake the glue loose.

hi rich i had the same thing on my 06 heritage. i took the cap off and turned it over on my workbench. took a blunt screwdricer and tapped the steel ring on the underside just enough to stop the rattle. there is an indent on bottom of cap and that is where i tapped it with the screwdriver and a hammer. just keep tapping around the circle and you will see that the steel gets pushed against the plastic and stops the rattle . hope this helps
