Is there any special tool, jig, jack, etc. available to help upright an UltraClassic when you're by yourself? My kickstand tripped back on me the other week in my garage, and my bike laid over onto the crash bar. Try as I could, I was not able to lift the bike up by myself. I had to rig up a hoist above the bike and use a come-along to raise the bike up.
Is there any tool or device available that I can carry in my touring pack to help me raise the bike upright without another person assisting? If not, I'll have to invent something.
There have been a number of posts on here that include videos of a good method to lift a bike. I don't remember the search words but I imagine "lifting bike" will bring them up. Should that not work google lifting a harley and there are quite a few videos....
never pick it up by bending over it. that is unless you'd like the 3rd lumbar to be replaced by a silicone disc.
back your butt up to it, one hand on the saddle bag guard, the other on the handle bar, scoot up under it and lift...
don't forget to put the kickstand down.. :-)
have to admit though.. rode my 06 roadking into the garage one day several years back, killed it, got off, bike went over.. and I didn't have an ounce of alcohol in me, I swear! LOL
Dropped my Ultra while backing up, thanks to a slick spot. Tried to pick it up by the above method to no avail. Left hand on handlebar did not allow enough leverage, right hand on rear saddlebag guard was doing all the work. So, I quickly made a nylon strap to wrap around the lower frame, allowing equal "pulling length". It worked. That strap resides in my tour pack.
Thanks for sharing that WRN link & the suggestion for a nylon strap. I went from a low-center to a high-center of gravity bike & laid her down twice in less than a month. I've been planning on a "test" drop in the near future and this info really helps.
Have done this back side in method myself but then again I'm a fair sized guy. But down at Bike week in Daytona last year, they did a demo. shoved over a Ultra, called a med size girl out of the crowd and had her upright it. The only help she had, they placed their feet infront of hers cause it was sort of gritty where she was standing. But she did do it.
