I'm begining to believe bought a LEMON[:@] I've bought a 1997 Electra glide Classic 6 weeks ago first the starter act's up and now just today the ignition switch screws up[sm=lame.gif] it moves but my steering is locked and no juice to my bike. I think just the top is moving. Help[&o]
Like the post said before probably just a few things to fix or replace. I would suggest getting a service manual, this will help you a lot and if you can do the work, it will save you a lot as well.
I will have to agree with the above posts also. Sometimes when a person buys something, there might be a few issues that have to be worked out before everything runs OK. I'm sure that you will be able to figure it out or maybe there might be somebody close to you that will be able to help you with your problems. Good Luck
Remember your new used bike is at least 8 years old. Replacing a starter and an ignition switch is nothing that bad. How many miles? And where was it stored? Remember lots of bikes end up exposed to the weather more than a car. Moisture, humidity, vibration, neglect, etc. take a toll way more than they will on a car.
I'm not sure how the previous owner stored it. I was/am agravated that the bike has done this 6 weeks after purchase[:@] although my dealer is giving me a 30% discount on repairs[sm=icon_rock.gif] my big problem is the steering is locked making it dificult if not impossible to load bike on a trailer[sm=smiley13.gif]
I agree with the above posts also. Just a little TLC and it will probably be a damn good scooter.
I just bought a 1998 softail custom and it test drove just fine. Then I got it home. Been working on it every since. Nothing major yet but the fact is, I bought it from a so called Harley mechanic, that claimed he did all the services and all the maintanence and claimed that absolutly nothing was wrong with it. Bad thing is, he lives in Indiana and I live in NM.
