I store my bike outside, and today I went out to throw out the trash and caught a heavy whiff of gasoline. That was when I noticed that my bike was laying on it's passenger side. Apparently the high wind gusts caught the cover and tipped it. The footbrake footpeg snapped off and there was gas everywhere. I figure I will leave the cover off until the winds die down and let the wind pass through the bike instead of taking it parasailing.
My question is - where did the gas come from? It looks like it may have come out of the hypercharger? In that case, that must mean my air cleaner is junk until I clean and oil it. What is the best way to start her up without an explosion as that would really ruin my day.
Other than the footpeg, there does not appear to be any real damage. I will look at it really well tomorrow and reassess the damage.
Which side is the passenger side? How strong was the wind, seems you need to find a better way to store your bike, you sure somebody didn't knock it over?
the dealer lowered my RK rear when i bought the bike...i did notice bike sat slightly more upright. we were out in arizona last year-wind was blowing hard enough to close interstate. a gust of wind blew the bike over in a parking lot. that night the news reported gusts to 74 m.p.h.!!
Haha, you can tell I was not paying much attention to what I was typing.
The wind was whipping pretty good and almost took the cover off. Usually I do not secure the strap, but after almost losing the cover, I thought it might be a good idea. Not so much, in retrospect...
There was no gas on the tank, but all over the right side of the bike and under (and inside) the hypercharger.
Thanks for that - it makes sense. Luckily it landed on the generator and did not hit too hard. I had visions of scratches and dents when I took the cover off, but it seems as if all is well except for the footpeg.
Update... Found a replacement mount at a local shop that only cost $8.00 for two of them. I got really lucky that time...
