The seat on my bike is a H-D Sundowner which has been very comfortable. Now it has a small (about 1/2" long) crack started on the top edge. Does anyone here have any experience (good or bad) with re-covering a H-D seat? If good experience, then who did the work and what did you have changed? Thanks.

Since there are no replies to my question, I'll ask another one instead. Does anyone know who makes H-D seats, if not H-D themselves? I need to replace my bike's seat and don't want another one like the one I have now. Thanks.
I don't really think it would be worthwhile to re-cover a Harley stock seat, just my opinion. And maybe the softail seats are different but the stock seats on my dyna and roadking both had plastic pans (really cheezy thin plastic). For the money I swear by lapera seats. U.S.A made, powdercoated metal pan and you can use their website to have one of their seat models covered in all different colors and designs (alligator skin etc.)
I just have the regular old vinyl cheapies (bout 180 bucks) but the high quality pan means when i need to i can have them re-done in leather or something.
Btw, they also have leather one but they're a bit more pricey. I have the lapera "barebones" on both bikes. I get a lot of compliments and a lot more comfy than they look. Although the barebones is pretty minimalist compared to the sundowner (I still have the one for the roadking in case the sweetie wants to tag along)
A related question, I have a 1998 Springer Softail (FXSTS) with the stock seat. The seat is still in perfect condition, but I am very keen on the distressed brown leather look, so I am considering having it recovered. This will work out a LOT cheaper than ordering a new leather seat, about a quarter of the cost.
Is this a good idea? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware off?
