Default sat for 4 years

hello all, I'm looking at a 1995 XLH 1200 sportster that's been sitting in a shed for the last 4 years after he slid down the road on it. i have seen a few pics of the bike showing tank damage gear change and both handle bar leavers broke. he says the engine turns over after he removed the plugs and pushed it in gear (the battery is dead needs replacing) ok the thing is if i clean the carb change the oil and battery do you think it should be good to go after standing for this length of time or could there be more to it than that or stay away from this bike. what i hope to do is build a bobber out of this bike. what do you think thanks

if it has compression it should be ok. However the price needs to be right. If that bike were running and not wrecked I would try to get it for under 3k. SInce it is wrecked and has been sitting try for half that.

I agree, if it has compression it should run. Before you ride it I would sugguest a good once over on everything, 4 years could mean tire dry rot, or brake system issues. If you buy it right (around $1500.00-$2000.00) it may not be too bad of an investment.

If the price is right, go for it. If you're going to rebuild it anyway, the fluids, filters and gaskets will be getting changed anyway. Check the frame welds to see if the accident opened them up to abnormal corrosion also.
