Default Need help getting bike started

My sportster had been sitting for 8 months. Charged the battery and all electrical works. But after trying to start it began clack clack clacking. The sound is coming from the primary erea near the engine block and under the seat. I think it happened about 5 years ago when I bought it used. A guy I was in working on it suggest to tap the area with a wrench. Low and behold it worked then.. But not now.

I have the service manual. Would really like to get her started and begin riding again. Any suggestions of what I could do on my own?

I believe its the battery. Left my sportster sit for about a month and got the same clack clack clack. Got a battery tender and hooked it up over nite. Problem solved. I just keep it plug when not ride. No problems or clack clack after. Hope that solves ur problem.

gel cell or lead acid battery, sounds as if it may be a bad battery that doesnt have enough amps to turn the bike over, would pull it and take it to a part store or batter shop like auto zone or whatever and let them load test it. Yiiy can jump start it but if it has a bad cell it will work the charging system pretty hard trying to charge a bad battery and usually its free to have it tested
