I was riding home from work last night and the kick stand and spring and everything related to the kick stand fell off. went back to look for it but cant find it. Rolling at 70 Mph i'm guessing it could have bounced anywhere. Anyway, i called Harley D today to price a new one and its gonna be $163.00 just for the stand and no hardware. Add in all the extra for the hardware, im looking at almost $200.00 for a frikkin kick stand. He claims it is a SPECIAL one that has to be SPECIALLY ordered because i have a 2006 Sporty 1200 XL Low. He says they changed in 2006 somehow or other. Anywho, i found a slightly used Kickstand for a 2006 Sporty 883. The stand is only $40 and has all the hardware and is ready to mount. I was looking in my manual for my 1200 and it shows a stand identical to the 883 stand. My question is, is this guy blowing smoke up my *** because they are a dealership or can i use this 883 stand on my bike. Anybody know? Thank you! Big Rod.
I think the dealer is correct in stating that the Sportster low has a different jiffy stand than the standard 883. I did a quick search of Jiffy stands for the low and the standard, and different part numbers and prices came up. The replacement cost of a stand for the low is actually cheaper than the standard 883. You can verify this by consulting an OEM Harley parts microfiche for your year and model and comparing the identified part with the part identified for the 883. An online Harley parts microfiche can be viewed at:
A 2006 Sportster 883 low and a 2007 Sportster 1200 low both call for replacement part # 50185-04 WELDMENT-JIFFYSTAND,CHRM. Unfortunately, the microfiche for the 2006 Sportster 1200 low was not posted on line.
In all probability, the $40 jiffy stand will fit your bike. To be certain, call the stealer and determine what HD part # your bike requires. Then, cross reference this to the part # for a 2006 Sportster low.
Thanks for the info!! got up up this morning early and went searching for my old stand, found the spring and the stand after awhile. stopped by oreilly auto parts and bought a bolt and a pack of nuts and washers for $8.00 total and put my stand back on lol. $200.00 vs $8.00 Screw the dealership lol. still might buy the other used one though for a back up but the way i put this stand back on, it aint coming off again.
