79 ironhead
Hello,
I've got a 1979 Ironhead Xlh1000 I just got the other day. I'm having a few issues the carb was clogged but I took it apart in fixed that problem runs now and sounds great. Now unless my battery is fully charged it won't stay running once battery runs down it dies. So I'm thinking generator any advice on checking to see if it generator is bad or something else? Also my starter will stick on sometimes when starting. do i have to take the left side cover off to take the starter off? Could it be solenoid ?Im totally new here any advise would be great!

If I remember right you don't have to take off the clutch cover for the starter, and be glad putting it on can be a bear. You'll want to get that sticking starter fixed before it goes out, I had mine rebuilt and it was over $120 I think, not cheap.
Otherwise sounds like your generator isn't working right. I think there is something you can do to make sure it works. Like ground it out or something, then it should generate. An old Ironhead guy told me something like that. You'll have to get a hold of one of those types. Sorry I'm not much help, but it's a start. Have fun on your Ironhead, their a blast and it'll keep you busy!
