Question IL41 through Chicago

We are heading to Milwaukee from OH and taking US 30 to Chicago. The plan is to jump on IL41 (Skyline Drive) through Chicago along the lake. Can anyone tell me if this is a decent route? We figure we'll be getting to Chicago around 10-11 on Thursday so hopefully we'll miss rush hour.

If anyone has a better route to get around Chicago to Milwaukee I am open to suggestions. We prefer to stay off the Interstates, but also out of stop & go traffic

Thanks

Lake Shore Drive is the road. Only word of caution is through the southeast side by the old steel mills, 41 goes a block turn right another block turn right another block... Make sure you mapquest that little stretch, not a part of town you want to be lost in. Once on Hayes then LSD, ignore the hwy 41 signs and stay on Sheridan Road all the way up to brewtown. Especially through the Winnetka ravines, you might get Ferris Bueller or Risky Business flashbacks!

Thanks Chiabate. I've wondered why there were so many turns when I Googled it. I appreciate your response

I just drove that yesterday. Lake Shore is a beautiful route. The lower part of 41 around Stoney Island is a rough area though. You might want to plan to go through there early in the day. Definately not after dark.

Coming up LSD, there will be some stop-n-go from McCormick/Soldier Field to DuSable harbor. Shouldn't fry your thighs, but there are a couple stoplights and cagers that all of a sudden realize they're in the wrong lane and they're the only one on the road. Again, don't take the Foster ave. exit (41 sign) just stay on LSD as it turns into Sheridan road. A slight less-than-savory area up in Roger's Park by the people displaced from Cabrini Green (empty Cheetos wrappers make you slide!) but it's almost a blink-n-miss-it and then you're in Evanston and beyond. If you do the 41 turn-off, you won't see the lake again until you're in Milwaukee and head east. Most of 41 after LSD is strip malls and superslab, do Sheridan and you won't be disappointed.
