michigan laws
a cop in union city mi. just put a tag on my race car because it has no plates and insurance.
is there anything i can do about this? its only been there 2 weeks just don't have room for it in the garage right now

If it was on the street, I guess pay the ticket. If it was on your property then I'd look into whatever housing code he cited under and see if he has the authority to do so. That said, most police departments have an ABV Officer and they are empowered to cite housing code as it relates to unlicensed vehicles.

Had a cop stopped at my house and told me I had to get current tags on a car I had in the driveway that was expired (hadn't used it for a few months, hadn't bothered putting the new tags on). Wondered about that; a neighbor had an old one he's been working on for a few years with no tag on it. Maybe they were having slow days...

Leaving it outside, unlicensed and uninsured where someone can see it will get you a ticket. Its the law. If it sitting where no one can see it you can probably get away with it for a while. But all it will take is someone complaining, and hoila, you will get a summons. It doesn't matter what someone else is getting away with, if its the law and you break it, you will likely have to pay the fine.

I don't know what type of car you have but. Many people have had this problem with drag cars. If I remember right NHRA helped with the problem. The city codes are written to eliminate the non drivable cars (junk). The way the codes are a race car since it's not licensed falls under this code. Go to City Hall and explain the situation and see what answer you get.
