The first time I rode the Mighty Mack going North the winds were light and out of the West so it wasn't bad at all. They were working on the cables so the paved outside lanes were closed and had to ride the grates. A little squirmy but not bad. Did 40mph all the way across.
Coming back the next day was another story. Started seeing road signs reporting high wind warnings for the bridge miles before you hit it. They hadpulled the workers off and opened the paved lanes, thank God. I think I was counter fighting the wind to much. Needless to say I think I only did15 mph going South on the pavement. Got to the other side and I think I jumped off the bike and kissed the ground.
The last time I road it there were high wind warnings again. I was nervous but knew I did it before so just went for it. The hardest part is passing those sections with the uprights that block the wind once you're use to it.
I would love to do a night ride across it sometime.
I've ridden the Mac many times... I don't think it's bad at all. A little nerve racking on the metal grates, but not bad. Now if the wind is REALLY blowing then they won't even let you on the bridge. Hell those strong gusts blow cars off the bridge so image a bike would be no match for mother nature.
