Front End Strap Trailer Hook

I have seen videos on youtube showing a guy using "tank straps" to tie the bike down. He runs them around the lower fork tubes above where the fender attaches. This does not compress the shocks. I am not saying this is the "right way" as the video implies but am curious about it.
Has anyone here tried this method?

Those eyes you put on look like a great idea too. I also saw a guy use a zip tie to make sure the strap hook does not come out of the eye if the strap goes slack.
Has anyone here tried this method?

I strap mine down like the video. Puts no undue pressure on the forks and the bike rides on the suspension like normal. I use a heavy ratchet strap hooked through some short 1" straps. Run the straps through the gap between the fender and fork, then run the ratchet through the loops and hooks to the trailer. I've never had a strap come loose like this. Strapping it above the point of compression is relying on the front springs to keep the straps tight. Hit a big enough bump and they'll go slack and could potentially unhook. One more reason not to do it.
