Sidecar rig no madder how prefect they are setup are hard on tires. Motorcycle tires on a rig wear fast. No an issue if you don't use it much. But start racking up miles and the rear bike tire and the sidecar tire will look like new on the sides and be worn to nothing down the center.
Getting a car tire on the sidecar and the rear of the bike will save you a lot of cash. You will also see better traction on the bike . Easy to do on some sidecars major project on others. Same with the bikes New Touring bike 2009 and up it is easy. Makes a big difference.

Have you got any references on how to do this? From time to time I have looked into it but not really found much for Harley's since Liberty discontinued selling a third-party rear wheel designed for a car tire years ago. I understand there were issues with the hub on it cracking. Not encouraged by your comment as mine is far older than a 2009!

I can tell you how we did it on two of the many ways to do it depending on the sidecar. On these we removed the factory axle, welded in a Street 750 HD axle cut to length we wanted. Took a Street 750 wheel cut the hub down so it would fit. What we did was cut off the part of the hub
that was not need with out a sprocket. The Street 750 wheel will take a Smartcar tire perfectly. If you need more detail just ask. If the bike is older that 2009 car tire will not fit , I know of non made anymore that will fit the bike.
