I have not installed one of these kits...
I think the transmission shafts are the same part numbers for all the tapered mainshaft units.
The big difference between the early and late was the trap door and the clutch release, the `86 and earlier used the clutch release arm on the trapdoor, the `87 and later use the ball and ramp system.
Maybe you just need to change over to the later model trap door and clutch release.
