i'm thinking about going to a 5deg. raked triple tree and extending the forks 2 inches to make things a little easier on my reworked shoulder. a place called kewl metals in so. cal. is coming out with a wide glide conversion kit with 4 1/2 deg. rake. it would probably be more expensive. any thoughts on what my best option is.
haven't seen you around here, in a while. i read about your rotator cuff on the other site. glad to hear everything went ok.
i went with 7 degree raked trees and +4 over tubes. i've heard differing opinions about extending the forks, when you rake it out. some people feel that it negates the effect that the trees have, but from my day to day use, i feel that my setup has made a world of difference. i'm looking at putting on a steering damper, too.
i was thinking i would have to extend the forks to keep things level after i rake it. the guy i talked to at kewl metals said something about an 1 1/2 inch spacer included in the kit for this. i think i will call liberty and see what they have. i've looked at their website and didn't see anything for a sportster but probably better talk to them in person. i've tried to post on here a few times but these are the first that have gone through in quite a while.
yeah, i extended my forks so as to level out the front end, too. i haven't regretted my decision to extend 'em. go for it, just make sure you do it right the first time.
i called liberty sidecars and they suggested i call hawg halters. they have raked trees up to 7 deg. if i remember right. i can't decide between 4 and 5. i am going to install progressive fork springs while i'm at it. do you think i can get my 2 inch extension by using the spacers supplied with the springs?
I just finished installing 4 1/2 degree rake from Hawg Halters....very nice stuff...came with 2 inch extentions......steering is much better. Easy install......
