Default Speedometer question

I have a 1993 EGC that Im using for my trike conversion. My speedo cable is mounted to my front axle. I dont know if they are also mounted the same on the newer scoots. Thats why Im asking the following. Ill be running a 21" wheel up front. The rear wheels will be either 14" or 17". 14" if what I have already, fits. 17's if I get new wheels. How much of a difference, if any will I see in the MPH reading?

Owning a trike myself and as much riding I have done this year so far, I would tell you to keep the stock tire size up front. Main reason is the tire has a heavier casing for added weight. The other reason is the tire is made of a different compound to last longer. Since you take the lean out of a bike once its trike all the wear on the front tire is in the center.

Just my 2 cents worth

lets go back to my original question. Will the tire size effect the MPH reading?
Besides. I all ready laid out $1200.00+ not counting the price for the triple trees and such. What Im building is not in any way goin to retain a stock look. This is a custom. Everyone is entitled to their 2 cents. Bottom line,... Im goin to build what I want to build. If I had let everyone's 2 cents, ( Im not shooting your input down there FLTR) influence me when I decided to invent my product and put it on the market. Id have a whole jar of penny's. Most said I was waisting my time promoting and manufacturing RJS Originals V-Twin Heat Deflectors. Dealerships, left and right turned me down. Well that was back almost 10 years ago. I ship world wide and have been doing so for quite sometime.

To answer the question about any MPH change is no. The speedo casing was designed for the type of wheel "not the size diameter of the wheel" and if it needed a spacer. Newer bikes use a electronic speed sensor in the transmission

Zoood, if you put a larger diameter than stock wheel on the front, the mph will read slower than you're actually going, but I'm no engineer and can't tell you how much.

A friend of mine put on a 21" wheel and the difference was 5-8 MPH slower. In other words he thought he was going faster then he actually was. To run at 45MPH he needs to go 50-51 mph.

I found this bit of info>>> 2240:60 is what the factory ran with the 21 and 16" front wheel drive speedos. 2:1 was for 19" wheel.
