Personally, I would not and I would go out of my way to let everyone I could possibly reach, know what that dealer did! That’s what I meant by suggesting that the dealership stabbed themselves in the pocket book.

But the question sill remains: why would they do this; what is their motivation?

To answer your qustions, Yes I had a dealer call corporate Harley which got me a black flag on my bike in the nationwide system for having a trike kit and reverse gear installed aftermarket. I will not spend one dime at all 3 dealerships that are owned by the same guy. 2 are in Myrtle Beach and one is in Charleston SC, you can figure out who they are.

I had 1750 miles on my new triked Roadglide in 08 when the shifter stopped working. I was riding to the south Myrtle Beach dealership when this happened. Turned out the shifter paw from Harley made by them and installed in the transmission when it was assembled by Harley had a bad weld and the weld twisted off clean from the plate from the paw shaft. The service manager called Harley to tell them what was wrong with my new bike and told them I had modified the bike with the trike kit and reverse gear. The reverse gear didnt have anything to do with the shifter paw defective weld ( I had only used the reverse gear once or twice at that time ) I had told the butt hole service manager I would pay the difference for any additional work that the warranty didnt cover. They also knew me and my situation with my hit n run that took my left leg above the knee in 07.

Now I didnt buy the bike from the Myrtle Beach dealer. If I had known they would have done this to me I would have towed up to the Harley dealership I bought the Roadglide from and that did install the reverse gear and they would have fixed it under warranty. Additionally besides losing my powertrain warranty I had to pay a $100 deduction Harley charged me to get my money back for the extended 7 warranty I had purchased.

You can imagine how pissed I was and I gave the service manager and owner a earful at the Myrtle Beach dealer. I now either order from the dealership I bought the bike from or I will drive 50 miles to one of 2 other dealers either in NC or Florence SC

I think they didnt like the fact I bought the bike at a different dealer and decided that they could get back at me. Or its just plain supid arrogence that some dealership have that I have dealt with that think they are the only ones who sell and service Harleys

The puzzle still remains. What is the incentive for a dealer to bite the hand that feeds him by dropping a dime and having the customers warranty canceled?

I think that any rational person would respond exactly the way you did and take their business elsewhere. So what did the dealer gain?

I believe some are like the spoiled little **** that just feels this need to tell mommy someone did something bad. Then in my dads case there are the kind who have short comings in the trouble shooting dept so they fear the unknown so they run to mommy and tell her what modifications the man did to his Trike. Either way they loose my business and the business of everyone I warn about them.

I have for years heard all this BS.
I know of ONE Hd warranty voided. A Sporty the owner went through rear tires in less than a month Burn outs put it against the wall and smoke did this even at the dealer.
He rode it worst than like he stole it did not service it and Blew it up. He then expected the dealer to buy it back.
Other than that bike I have never Known anyone that had a warranty not honored or voided.
But I hear about it and read it on the net everyday.

I believe it's as stated above, some just like to tell mommy about something not right...whaaa, whaaa.

Also, some are living in the past...with large sales and service...they have failed to realize that the times they are a changing...more doing their own work, sloppy service at dealerships and riders are going to Indy's for service....

it's gonna bite them very soon I believe.

So if you don’t personally know of someone who had their warranty voided or it hasn’t happened to you, than it must be B.S?

I have never had my warranty pulled nor do I personally know anyone that has, but I believe that it is a real occurrence.

Likewise, I have never walked on the moon nor do I personally know anyone that has walked on the moon, yet I believe that men have walked on the moon. Am I being too trusting?

There has to be more to it than just being a tattle-tattle. There must be some type of financial reward or dat-a-boy points involved. Why else would a business man risk loosing a customer and develop a reputation of being snitch. It just doesn’t make $ense to me. It’s the old “risk-reward” thing!

Now having said that; I knew a contractor that made a practice of turning you into the building department if you were undecided if you were going have infractions corrected or not. He lasted about two years in business before the word got out. So I guess there are dumb people in this world.

Well folks I can surely tell you that my engine warranty was voided. I can only quess why my dealer felt the need to tell the factory rep that we installed the cams. I don't really care whether you believe or don't believe that it happened.

As my dad said if you ever met him he would be the 2nd person you knew. Just a little reading about how a tattle tale dealer operates https://www.hdforums.com/forum/tri-g...or-though.html
