Default Windshield question

Got caught in a fairly heavy rain the other day and could not see safely. I still have the stock clear 12" windshield on the trike. I'm 5' 9" and have to look through the shield and that is not the hot set up. I've been thinking about a shorter Ultra LRS shield so I can look over the shield and not through it but still deflect the air up and over me. Has anyone used the Ultra LRS and what are your opinions on it?

Also, since I've not replaced a shield on the triglide; what all is entailed in a swap? Can I only take the top three torx screws out and change it or do I have to take more of the batwing apart? I also have the LED lights that function as turn signals on the front of the fairing at the windshield mount.

Any input and help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It's the same (remove the three screws) as an Ultra Classic. If I replace mine it will be with a Clearview recurve windshield.

Lynn & I both use Clearview recurve windshields.
There is a link on their site that shows you how
to figure out what height you should use.

Default Windshield Help...

When sitting in your normal riding position, the top of
the windshield should be at the level JUST below your nose.

I use the classic flip LRS shield on my Ultra trike conversion and my SE Street Glide. The Ultra style is just a bit more flip, i'm not crazy about the X-stream.

A few of my buddies saw mine and ordered the same from Matt. Call him and he can help you zero in on the height you need. If you ride at night, don't get the dark tint. The medium tint is fine for most, the light tint is just too light. Great sale price right now too.

Erie is correct... just below your nose.

One thing to remember is if you do alot of 2 up riding, lowering your windshield will have an adverse affect on your passenger.

Default Short Ain't Good

I have a 4" on mine. We rode from TN to Panama City Beach this spring. Great ride down and back except for Atlanta. We hit a pretty good rain there. I was in the lead and the rain messed up my glasses so bad I had to lower them to see the road. The next bad thing was...looking over my glasses I couldn't read the road signs ....missed the loop and went downtown at noon! NOT TOO GOOD. I guess I'll go back to my stock windshield.

What has worked for me in a situation like that with a short windshield is to wear a flip face shield (or full-face helmet). I too wear prescription glasses. I also wear fingerless leather gloves. When the rain hits, I have one shield to wipe with the glove to get me through safely. Having a tall windshield and face shield makes for tougher visability when the rain hits. Of course, in torrential down-pours, ya gotta pull over when you can. Just my 2 cents.

The Clearview that I have says it's safe to use Rain-X on it. I wouldn't do that to a factory shield but it hasn't affected my clearview at all.
