HI guys
Any news on gearing, like the larger rear pully on the back wheel, bigger radius is allways better with that sort of thing. I cant find any thing. Be great to just have a spare wheel with a couple of extra teeth on the pully, an a car tyre. While we are on that subject, Ive heard of bead failures with car tyres on bike rims, any imput? Doug
There is a post somewhere here on the forum under the "Touring bike" heading that talks about using a international Sportster 1200 rear sprocket. It has two more teeth than stock.
I installed one on my 2008 Classic. I really like it. It makes take off much easier, and I'm now able to use sixth gear at a much lower speed without lugging the engine.
I now can cruse at 55 - 58 mph in sixth with no problem.
As an added bonus, my gas milage has improved now that I can run in a higher gear, at a lower MPH.
Makes pulling our camper a breese now.

Did you have to give up the rubber cushions inside the 08 sprocket or does the Sporty sprocket have the same setup?
Wondered where this thread went. LOL OK, back to subject at hand.
I bit the bullet and changed the 34 tooth for a 30 tooth and the result is GREAT! Gearing is SO much better. Now I'm in a good RPM range all the time, and can use 6th gear. 70MPH = 2900 RPM in 6th. I'm lovin' it!
What is your first gear ratio? I thought when they went to the 6 speed that 6 gear is 1 to 1 just like the 5 speed and all they did is go smaller on the rear pulley and the changed the gearing in the transmission so first was the same or close to what the 5 speed is. Will do some checking.
I thought I read that 4th is 1-1 then 5th and 6th overdrive the gear. I may be mistaken.
B roadglide ...
No ... didn't give up the rubber hub. The Sportster sprocket is identical to the 08 Glides, except for having two more teeth on the sprocket.
Makes for an easy, and quick sprocket swap.

Did you have to change belts? Did you get it from Harley and do you remember the part # ? I have an 08 Roadglide with TLE sidecar and need to make this change. If it worked for you Im really interested in any info you can give me. Thanks

According to the 2007 HD service manual I have final drive ration in 6th gear is 1.00 5th 1.19 and 4th 1.39. I do not know why they change the way they use to list it but any how 6th is 1 to 1.

I have an 07 FLHTCU w/ sidecar, I just run 5th gear 70 mph@3200rpm. If or when I remove the sidecar, then I still have my original gearing, and can use 6th as an overdrive.
