Hacked, Conversions and Trailering"Harley Sidecar, Conversion Trikes and Motorcycle Pull Behind Trailering Enthusiasts"
A forum for the discussion of your sidecar, Conversion Trike or Pull Behind Motorcycle Trailer.
I put a Bushtec trailer hitch on my 2000 Road Glide last year, so I could pull an Aspen Classic trailer. Put about 6,000 miles pulling the trailer since then. A couple days ago I found one side of the hitch cracked all the way through and the other side partially cracked. After inspection, I found that the weld on the broken side was of very poor quality. No weld penetration between the two parts of the hitch at all, just puddled on the surface. It's a wonder it lasted as long as it did.
I was lucky I caught it before the trailer just broke off while I was riding down the road, WITH MY WIFE ON HER BIKE RIGHT BEHIND ME.
I was fortunate to find a welding shop a few miles away who were able to repair it better than new.
I wish I had taken some pics before the repair to send to bushtec.
I paid top dollar for the hitch, expecting a top quality product. Unfortunately, I got shoddy workmanship and it was just luck that I caught it before serous damage to my bike was done, or worse.
If you have a bushtec product, inspect it carefully.
I'll never buy another bushtec product.

This post might have meant more to me had you talked to Bushtec first and not received any satisfaction.

Had I been close to home I would have contacted them and tried to get them to take care of it, but I was stuck on the side of the road 2,000 miles from home on the way to a wedding. I didn't have the time to contact Bushtec or wait for a replacement.
Good to hear you caught it and are home safe. Contact Bushtec tell them what happened. From my experience they will take care of you.
The locking latch broke on my trailer. It was my fault, my friend slammed the lid closed and latch broke. We were on a trip 300 miles from home. I called them told them what happened and wanted to buy a new latch. I was told they don't do things that way. Next morning there was a new latch at the hotel no charge with a note to send them the old one when we got home.
