OP; What better time than the present to get a manual, set of tools and start reading/wrench'n. If you're questioning the dealership's service...time to take the plunge!

This is all good Info to know! Highly appreciate the welcoming. I did the oil change myself, and as stated... Piece of cake; one plug, Rad shroud, and air filter was easy.
I got the service manual, thanks again fellas!

My street rod is almost at 1k miles. I'm debating changing the oil myself or paying $229 for the 1k tune up

Do it. Oil, filter and the drain plug o-ring. All's ya need. I use the Wix filter (part # 51358) I can get from Amazon for less than $10 and is a great filter.

The shop is a luxury for the people that can't or don't. If you can or do you will be far better of money wise. If the shop is doing all that's set for the service it's going to be labor time that gets you and at 2hrs the $300 would be about right. I would think the street would be less then the big bikes? I know my sportsers where less then the big bikes .
