Default ECM question

Hey everyone! I'm gunna install the SE heavy Breather on my 2012 883 iron. I live about 8 miles from a harley dealership would it be okay if I installed the heavy breather THEN drove to the dealership and calibrated the ECM or will it mess up my engine. Also I have already installed the SE mufflers.

You think I should do the calibration first then install the heavy breather?

2012 Sportsters have O2 sensors so they have an ECM that will richen up the air fuel mixture somewhat when the sensors detect the lean condition. It will be fine for your 8 mile ride.

It will be lean outside of the ranges of the o2 sensors so they won't do anything. If it worked ;ike that would there really be any reason to have it tuned?

An 8 mile ride will not hurt the bike in any way.

No way to know that at all. Where I live 8 miles might take 45 minutes. I've seen heatshields turn yellow very quick on bikes that are lean. I've also monitored air fuel on bikes with stage 1's and know how lean they are really running. Telling a guy he's fine to do this is poor advice IMO. Might not have a problem but you can't be certain. A guy could throw a couple hand tools in a backpack and change air cleaners in the parking lot in 15 minutes and know he's fine.
