Road King break up
My '96 Road King runs fine around town and short weekend trips. After 4-5 hours at highway speeds it starts to break up, skip, backfire, and will eventually quit and shut down altogether. Any ideas? Just got back from breaking down in the Fl Keys. Not a bad place to get stuck but I would have prefered ridin' home to sittin in a truck.

I had a similar problem and after two trips to the dealer they figured out it was only corrosion on the ignition switch (behind the dash board). On long rides it would break up because the vibration would make the ignition loose contact. A few times it shut down completely. A little contact cleaner fixed the problem.

There has been many problems with the wiring to the front injector being strapped down too tight from the factory causing it to break the copper inside the insulation. Run the bike and wiggle the wiring right near the front injector plug and see if it makes a difference.
