So, the error message has to do with the battery not being hooked, even though I have the ignition turned on and the tuner sequenced when it powered on?
You know, I think I have more of a computer issue here. The tuner powers on, I have the map. It just won't send because of this error message. Does anyone know WTF this message means or where I can go to clear whatever it is?? Or maybe I should be in general discussion area now for computer questions....lol???

In the directions it said "ON some models motorcycle power is only supplied to it while engine is running " Make sure all cables are secured securely

After I change my map I always save it before going to the bike, then with the map table page still on the screen, plug into bike turn bike on then hit send works every time. Can you see the throttle position & rpm's when you start the bike.

Cable/s are secure; Ok, I will hook up a 9 volt; I've only turned ignition on, but have not started the bike. Map was "custom" done up for me from FM. I will try tomorrow what last two posters mention. Thnx.....to be continued.

You have to have dynajet download on laptop to be able to pull that map up on to download it. You have to pull that map on on it then download it to bike. You have to be on the page with the rpm's & throttle position on it, those spots will be blank till u turn bike on. You don't need 9 volt if your doing it with laptop on bike, that's only if your loading it in the house with a desk & PC off bike. Like I mentioned dynajet will help you find the download. It used to be alot easer when they sent a disk.

@ xcbullet: Are you saying, the map that FM sent me (in a djm type file) I need to download it to the Power Commander page and open it from there; Or am I misunderstanding your last post?
Will have to try this tomorrow night after work. Cannot do it tonight.
Folks, I really appreciate your time and suggestions with me on this as this is all new to me. To be continued.......
Thank you!

holy crap you are a bit computer illiterate . No big deal... not everyone gets these things. But you are making it much more difficult than it is.

The PowerCommander software you installed from the CD sent by FM is what communicates with the PCIII. Those of us that didn't get the CD, had to download from the Dynojet site.

You already have the map sent from FM. You need nothing from the Dynojet website. Those maps are for people who don't buy from FM to get a custom map. They have to download a generic map and tweak.

The PCIII must be powered by the 9volt battery, OR by the fuel injectors when the bike is on and running (or for a short while when the fuel pump first primes).
Usually the 9volt battery is just so they can load a map before sending the PCIII to you, but you can use it on the bike.

Be aware that if you use the 9volt battery with the PCIII connected to the bike and the bike on (but not running). you can load the map that way as well. But you sometimes will end up with a Historic Check engine code because the injectors got power when they weren't expected to. No big deal just clear them.

I would just ignore usign the 9volt battery and just do it with the bike running.

Easiest method is:
1) With bike running and USB connected to laptop and PCIII
2) OPend the PowerCommander software
3) Open Map File (pick the djm map from FM)
4) Send Map
5) Disconnect everything and go ride.

6) at some point when the bike is warmed up, you're going to want to set the Throttle Position to 0 in the Power Commander program with the bike connected and running. But lets get the map loaded first.

BTW, you can call FM and they will help walk you through this if you still have issues.

Well my plans tonight got cancelled and I went home after work instead. Got the bike out, first plugged in USB cord and got PCIII opened. This time I started the bike first. I then clicked on "get map" and it opened up showing my custom map from FM and the RPM's display working. Next I clicked on "send map" and it did! Took less than 20 seconds followed by it showing, "map download complete".
Throttle- 3%
RPM- 990-1030
Fuel Change- 5-7
Duty Cycle- 3
Ignition- 0

These were the readings displayed after download and while bike still running. I will go for a ride shortly and see how much of a difference there is. Yes, I guess I was making more out of what I was doing. I can comprehend things when explained to me rather than reading taking it in. And, of course you know it's sometimes harder to try and text stuff down trying to explain things. I think I had everything correct except actually running the bike. Ok, if there is anything else anyone would like to add please do.
I appreciate ALL the help suggestions from Everyone on here.
Happy forum member!

If I understand this correctly.........

When you clicked on "Get Map", that loads the map that is on the PCIII, onto your laptops Power Commander program for viewing/editing. Then when you "Send Map", you are taking the map that is currently displayed on your laptop Power Commander program, and sending it to your PCIII.
So in a sense, you just pulled your old map off your bike, and then sent it right back. Same map.

You need to 'Open Map' and locate the new map from FM in your folder and click on the new map. That puts the new map onto your program screen, and then 'Send Map'. That will install your new Map to your bike.
