Standard HD air filters really washable

Default Standard HD air filters really washable
Hi all,

Just a confirm really,

Are the standard air filters really washable? It says so in my owners manual and the HD works manual.

Just asking as the material that the actual filter part is made of seems very flaky and parts of it pulling away like a tough cotton wool?

Bike is a 2006 road king custom FLHRSI still with the standard football air intake.

I've washed mine several times...so far, they seem to be holding together just fine.

FWIW, I have two stock filters...wash one, put it aside to dry, and use the other until it's in need of washing.

What are you using to wash it out with

Dishwash liquid and warm water?

I use Dawn Dishwashing soap.
