Auto Tune, how does it work ?
I have asked this question before in the forum and am struggling what to do now since Christmas is approaching and I might make a decision...
The bike:
I have a 2005 Night Train with SE intake and slip-ons and the Stage 1 flash from a dealership. No plans for any engine modifications. Would like to change the intake & exhaust.
The budget:
It's tight. What I would like to do and what I can afford are two different things. I would like the most bang for the buck with an eye for the future.
The choices:
1. PV-1 only. Not interested in less BTW.
2. #1 with the AT (w/ 18mm WB O2 sensors).
3. #2 with Bassani Road Rage pipes.
I really want #3 but will be hard to justify the $s all at once. I think I could pull off #2 and install bungs in the current head pipes or just shelve the AT for the time being (but still buy it because it's cheaper that way overall) until I get the exhaust.
What is the ultimate value of the AT relative to the PV-1 open-loop with the minor changes that have been made to the bike?
For what it is worth, as an engineer, I am intrigued by the tinkering aspect of the AT.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Note that AutoTune Basic is not applicable to a PV-1 on a 2005 Softail (no O2 sensors) and Target Tune is not available on a PV-1 for a 2005 (IIRC). Does that change your opinion?
I guess the only real way you could do tune without 02s is to stick a sniffer up the tail pipe and see what comes out.
This is an area where a dyno really shines.
