Hey guys,
I splashed out last year and got my bike dyno tuned. I took it to the wrong person and anyway long story short, Ive never been happy with it. The bike ran well but had massive starting issues. I think I have that sorted now with the help of a very helpful, fellow forum member. But I spent so much time looking at cranking fuel and timing etc. I never actually looked at the afr till the other day and it seems this so called 'tuner' took my 176 map and made it entirely open loop. Its set at about 13.8 in the cruise areas. That seems a little too rich to me, should I make it a closed loop map again? Or is that acceptable? Any and all input is appreciated, Thanks , Matt.

It's your choice...either way can work if set-up properly, but I'm guessing your fuel mileage isn't great with that map.
My bikes are set to about 14.4 in the cruise range. No problems with performance and they get 42-44 MPG and my maps aren't optimized for fuel economy.

What tuner are you running? I would put it in Closed loop and run some logs to see what the o2's want to do. That will give you an idea of how far off your VE tables are.
Nhrider Ive honestly never paid much attention to my mileage, I'd rather have performance than economy so I don't mind using some extra fuel as long as it's not so rich it starts to hurt things.
WOC I'm having trouble getting my signature to show up, but it's a mild 95" using the SEPST tuner and I've been thinking I should do a few more smart tune runs to see how much the VEs change, but that doesn't actually help with the target afr. Any thoughts about leaning it out a bit?

If the VE's are calibrated close then they should be targeting your AFR tables, so leaning out your AFR tables shouldn't hurt a thing. Set it to closed loop and then data log and see where your o2 intergrators are running. So you'll want to record CLI front and CLI rear, MAP (kpa) and RPM
Ok, so I've recorded some data and have it on my laptop now. I'm looking at Engine Speed, MAP Load, O2 Integrator Front and Rear. The problem is it just looks like a bunch of lines to me, what should I be looking for? Sorry, I've still got lots to learn when it comes to this stuff! Thanks, Matt. I have helped more than one forum member write a map via the internet. If you need any assistance, feel free to drop me a pm. If you logged data in open loop, it's not what you need. You need to make a recording by flashing the bike with SMART TUNE enabled, then we can assist you in generating the proper tables.
