Ignition switch
2004 FLHPI. I turned the bike on. Hit the switch. Blew the fuse. Replaced the fuse. Battery is charged. When the switch is in off position there is noise like the fuel pump is starting up for about 3 seconds. then nothing. No dash lights or anything upon turn switch to on to hit the start button. I thought perhaps solenoid. Now I am wondering if my switch is shot.
The noise you here may be the IAC motor in the induction module resetting itself at key off if it's when you turn the ignition off, which is normal.
Which fuse blew?
Did you check all the fuses?
I think on your model year you have fuses under both the left and right side panels.
Check for battery voltage across the fuses with the ignition switch turned on.
Not too much help there but without knowing which fuse blew it's difficult to help pinpoint an area to look at.
Does the fuel pump prime with ignition on and run switch on?
If you turned the bike on and the fuse didn't blow, but it did when you hit the start button or flicked the kill button, it may be related to something other than the ignition switch.

The fuel pump was priming and then upon push of the start button all went dark. I thought perhaps the relay for the Starter which I suspect is the one behind the battery the fuse block only says brake relay on the cover and there is only one relay there. The fuse that blew was the 15 amp Battery fuse. The 40 amp fuse is fine. I am going to pull the battery to access the relay there. Thanks for the help.
So initially the fuse blew but at the moment the battery fuse no longer blows, however the lights go out etc when you hit the start button?
If that is the case then as an initial place to start I'd hold a meter across the battery and see what happens to the voltage when you hit the start button. Although you've charged the battery and it shows what appears good voltage, it may be that the battery has no amperage. Just a quick reassurance check before removing the battery.
I believe one of the relays under the seat on the left side behind the battery is an igniton switch relay and as it sounds like you're doing, it might be a good place to start if the battery shows as good.
good luck.

Is it the 15 amp 'ignition' fuse which is rupturing? There is another thread where the ignition fuse is blowing. Don't be misguided by the title of the thread. There is some good information in there. Whilst the bike may not be the same the principle will be together with the basic wiring diagram. The starter relay is the best place to fault investigate with a decent voltage/continuity tester. Good luck!
