This is a little difficult to describe. I've spent a lot of money on this bike so far and now frustrated as hell. Bike is a 2005 Ultra Classic. Has a 97" S&S kit, full Fueling camchest kit. Fueliong 543 cams. S&S roller rockers. Fan forced oil cooler. There was no problem running a Power Commander V. (I thought it should have run a little better especially on the bottom end). I took it to get dyno tuned and they said they flashed the ECM with a 2007 Fat Boy flash and a Target Tune with O2 sensors. Still thought it should have run better. Took it for a ride, after about 100 miles I went to pull out from a red light and it was like a a switch was flipped. It started backfiring and wouldn't run right. People behind me said flames were shooting out the exhaust. Sounded like timing was way off or something. Took it back and they changed the O2 sensors. Next ride after 75 miles the same thing. If it sits until cool it will run OK again. Seems like something temperature related but what? These rides have been in the 40's so it is not hot out. Haven't been able to use this thing for 3 months. Any help appreciated.
That's usually an ignition pick up when they cook and go weird, I only owned a Twin Cam for a few weeks and went back to an Evo . If it was my bike I'd change the timing plate in the nose cone but I don't know if the Twin Cam even has one??
Could be fuel pump too ,when it shids itself turn it off and on and listen to see if the pump is switching on,there's porous fuel lines around those years too man.
Actually isn't there a change at 05 to 06 in the ECM somewhere ?
You'll find it!
Someone here will know Twinkies man !
i would look to see which is failing, spark or fuel....rig a fuel pressure tester and watch to see if the pressure goes away when it stops running, same thing with spark tester...once you know which it is, then take the next step and fault trace that system.
