Just wondering if any of you have seen this code show up in your electronic gauge face. V IN ER. I was on a recent trip to watch the Pikes Peak International Hill climb and the gauge threw this code. No poor running issues. No fails of on board equipment. Every thing seems fine. Except with this code I loose the fuel level, odometer and gear position readout at the dash bottom. I ran my Thundermax diagnostics once home. No faults there neither. I can clear the code temporarily by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and it stays cleared as long as I just toggle over the main dash switch. When I thumb the "run" switch on the right handle bar, the code comes back to the gauge face in 4 to 8 seconds. V IN ER. Another couple of items of note while on this trip were that I was at 14,115 feet of elevation (Pikes Peak) and ambient 115 F in the Colorado range lands. However the bike ran flawless in both these extremes. And now that I'm back to my 5700 foot home elevation the code is still there. It's a 2010 FatBoyLo, Thundermax fuel control, E3 spark plugs, my gauge face is that 600 color combination combined speedometer with tach. They both work. The Harley service man in Misoola, Montana had never seen this code before neither. I'm hoping one of you wise and knowledgeable folks can point me in the right direction. By the way a dedicated specialty race prepped VW with a W12 engine won the race in 7 minutes 57 seconds.Like no VW I have ever seen. Incredible feat of driver and car to get to that 14,115 foot peak. Considering it took me and my buddy more than 40 minutes to do the same trip. Any how thanks in advance if your can help me out.
VIN error. Vehicle identification number error.
The ECM (computer) and speedometer VIN are not matching.
Basically the speedometer thinks it was transferred from another bike to yours or it thinks the ECM has been changed.
Not familiar with Thundermax so maybe some else will come along.
Thanks there Ed Ramberger for that link. Confirmed by Jimmy at Thundermax support as well. All cured on Code " V IN ER ". Speedo fine now after following procedure.
