I would really appreciate some help. I have an '07 FatBoy with the hands-free security system. I installed a PCIII about 5 months ago. The install was easy and routine. I downloaded a canned map and the bike runs great. About 3 months later, after thousands of trouble free miles, the security system stopped recognizing the FOBs (one at a time, about a few days apart). The service manager at the stealer reprogrammed the FOBsbut said he didn't know what causedthe problem. He said it must have to do with the PCIII, which, like the security system, is connected to the ECM. He told me a bunch of horror stories about PCIIIs (which I took as BS to try to get me to buy a SERT).He said they will not fix it if it happens again because the PCIII voided my warranty.
Well, it happened again -- the security system lost connection with the FOBs. Now I can only start my bike with the manual disarm function, which is a pain in the . . . I doubt it has anything to do with the PCIII -- I read a bunch of stuff about the PCIII and searched this forum and didn't see anything aboutthis type of problem. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem or how to fix it? Can you tell me how to permanently disconnect the security system? Thanks very much for the help.
Thanks WVRDKING. I doubt that is the cause based on what happened at the dealer last time (they reprogrammed everything and the FOBs worked again). But it's easy enough to check, so I'll replace the batteries and report back.
Also, I called Dynojet technical support today (the manufacturer of the PCIII) and was told that the PCIII installs after the ECM anddoes not send a signal to the ECMbut only modifies the signal sent out by the ECM. According to the guy on the phone it is impossible for the PCIII to screw up the security system.
