I live in an area that goes from 700'el. to over 5600' and sometimes does it in a hurry. I presume the ecm senses this and adjusts accordingly. What about after installing a Power Commander? What about after installing a DFO? My reason for asking is two fold. First, when my wife and I were in the CO Rockies earlier this year, her Triumph (carb.) actually seemed to retain more of its power than my RKC with a PC(?) Next, through my own lack of good diagnostics on my bike's decel popping, bought and installed a DFO unit on my bike. The popping was due mostly to loose headers. I do like the DFO unit though. Is it my imagination or does it perform better than a PC in the area I live in?
Does the installation of a PC make the efi blind to outside air pressure changes?
Is it the same for a DFO?
Which unit should I stay with?
Your RK has a MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) that senses the atmospheric pressure and adjusts the mixture accordingly. A PC or DFO will adjust the pulse width AFTER the ECM and therefore adjust the mixture according to the info the ECM sends out to the injectors which in turn is interupped by the DFO or the PC. So what I'm saying here is that it should adjust the mixture regardless.
I would suggest for your application to stay with the DFO
I also was wondering, I have my forth pot set at 4:00 on my DFO. I read a thread about setting it at 7:00 as the default setting. Did you post it and if so should I do it? The post said it would change the crossover rpm from 4000 to 4500 if I read it correctlyand it was the official recommendation from Techlusion now.
I posted that and can't understand where the benefit would come in other than with a stage 2 download like in my bike. It bacically ups the crossover and cuts off the addition of fuel until 2000 rpm's. An overly rich condition on a cold start like with my bike is about all it would eliminate otherwise it is kind of defeating the purpose of having the TFI in the first place. Run yours in the regular mode with the #4 pot set at 4 or there abouts...JMHO
There's a noticable decrease in bottom end crispness and less response on the top end using the #7 default setting on the unit, but for certain applications as stated above it will help there.
