Default Starting big motor on a stock tune

I have a 2017 dyna s just assembled a 124 engine for it but still just have a stock tune in the power vision. Would it be ok to start it and check for leaks and let it heat cycle? I would like to make sure everything thing seems ok before I take it the tuner. Fuel moto said they didn’t have a base map for my build combination and I couldn’t find anything other than basic stock maps on dynojet website. Thanks

I don't think it would be a problem if all you do is let it idle and warm up. But if there's no map for it what will your tuner use? If he has a map to get started with see if you can get it from him.

It will most likely just die immediately. It most likely won't run. I've seen big motors attempted to be started with stock maps before and people thought they needed a password learn because they immediately fire for a split second and die.

No - it wouldn't be a good idea to run it that lean if it does stay running.

2k2ss, What did you wind up doing? I'm in the same boat looking for a solution also.

Email dynojet and they'll make a base map for you. It's been within a day every time I've done that

Why would you want to? You have a tuner and have access to a calibration that can easily have the cubic inch changed and then downloaded into ECM.

I wound up taking my ECM and tuner to the guy who's going to do the tune. He loaded what he called a "Fat & Stupid" map on it. It's from another 124 he built but he enrichened the mixture ("Fat") to keep it from running lean, and retarded the timing "Stupid" to keep pre ignition away. Told me to just keep an ear out for pinging throughout the RPM range just in case. Hoping to start it by the weekend.

There is NO advantage to running a fresh engine with a “stupid” rich or retarded map when there are fairly close tunes available with safe fueling and timing.
My recommendation is simple, get a base map from fuel moto. It should be close enough to get it to your tuner for proper breakin and tune.
We stopped trying to pick a base map guaranteed close enough for breakin. For the past 15 years all new builds with new rings, are carefully broken in under heavily monitored conditions and tuned so the customer’s only responsibility is to ride and enjoy his/her new build. No need to send a customer out with an untuned (read: stupid rich or retarded) bike and putting the responsibility to properly breakin the new build square on the owners shoulders when he/she may not have any idea how to properly breakin a new build. Monitoring heat and detonation is primary to assuring proper breakin, not to mention AFR.
