Default Major Problem

I just put 14 inch apes on my 06 Street Bob, no real problems or issues. Just after, I felt like the bike might be running a bit lean and noticed the header pipes getting pretty red. Thought I may have loosened a connector durring the ape install and double checked everything this morning and found it all to be ok. Checked the map on my PC3 and found no problems. Left the bike for a while and went back out to change fluids tonight. Turned key and ignition came on, fuel pump started as usual, hit the starter and everything died. I mean dead as if the main fuse had blown. Checked all fuses, none blown. Battery is fine and it seemed to be getting power to the bike as the speedo kept making a noise as if the needle were trying to spin. Left bike for about an hour, came back and everything was like nothing ever happened. Changed fluids, went to start it up and same as before. Ignition, indicator lights etc. all on as usual, hit starter and everything died. Anybody have any ideas at all, I'll try anything before calling the stealer. TIA -Jones

I would bet that you have a pinched wire or one grounding out. Were the forks in the same position both times that it didn't start and in a different one when it did? If so, that would indicate that a wire is grounding out.

I used the novello extension kit, existing pin into socket on new pigtail and then individually shrink wrapped. I then double shrink wrapped each of the six pigtails and put them all in vinyl tubing before routing through the bars. Checked the pins in the socket three times and all switches work (well, did work) fine.No problems at all for first week. Makes me think that if it is a ground problem (and I think you guys are probabally right) it may be farther back. I'm wondering if I moved something while hooking up to the PC3 today. It acts more like something is tripping and then resets itself. Is there something like that on the bike that could trip from a gound short and then reset?
