Starter Problems?

I ride a 2005 FXSTI. Lately the starter's been chattering kicking in and out like the solenoid in a car when the battery's low. I don't think it's the battery because it doesn't do it all the time.

check all your cable and electrical connections to be clean and tight.

Thank's. It turns out it is the battery. Ihad a buddy of mine that works on bikes put his tester on it. This is my first Harley & it's been 30 yrs. since i've been on a motorcycle, so I really don't know much about the electrical system. I'll learn 'cause I like to do all the work on this thing that I can myself. Again, thanks for your response.
