Sportster 1200 S, 1999, Screaming Eagle CDI
My friend bought a carburated Sportster 1200 S, from 1999, with Screaming Eagle CDI.
He wants to check the timing but has few questions, please :
1. How Screaming Eagle CDI influence the stock timing ? Is it only more reliable and changes nothing, or it changes also the ignition timing ?
2. Because having the Screaming Eagle CDI, the timing has to be adjusted into a specific way, or the timing can be adjusted as per manual, as for the stock system (at 1050 rpm, using strobe lamp, the 2 circles into the middle of window, etc) ?
Thank you in advance
Marcel
2. adjust per manual.
3. It's not a CDI it's a IM
4. This should show instuctions.

Could you please tell me what is the difference between a CDI and an IM ?

the timing is the same and the method also.
the s model uses a 4 window timing cup and a map sensor, the other models use a voes and two window timing cup.
there is minor variations on the curve but the s holds a tighter curve optimized for the increased compression. it came stock with a 5.4k module and you have a 7.5k module so it will rev way up there. also of note, the s model is 20* advance and the others are 35* i believe. with the two plug heads, you do not want to run more than the 20* unless you are built for it, it will actually produce less power.
the s is a real hoot and to make it more fun
