Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
I have a 2001 Electra Glide Classic recently the check engine light keeps coming on then goes off not dropping any codes in the instrument cluster. Now the bike has been hard to get started when cold ( restarts just fine when bike is warm ) when I do finally get it started the check engine light is on and stays on for 10 to 12 miles then goes off. It used to fire right over no problem touch the starter and it would start now it takes multiple times to get it started.
Thanks in advance for any feedback
First off , get your battery load tested , most shops will do it for free , just charging it won't help if you have a weak or dead cell ,
You say that your not getting any error codes , the temp sensor , when it starts to go will do that , could try replacing that and see if that fixes the issue . I don't usually just throw parts at a bike , but this one sounds like it could be the issue . The crank sensor is also the same way , rough start / idle etc , no code .
I would also think Idle speed actuator or fuel pressure , but you say it starts and runs fine when warmed up , thinking out loud here .
While your at it , get yourself a can of electrical contact cleaner . Check your connections , fuse box , relays etc , corrosion is your enemy and can cause all sorts of electrical issues . Pull your main fuse , then unplug each item one at a time , spray and let dry .
As Ed stated , you can pull your codes using a jumper , have you checked to see if any come up ? When your red light comes on , it should have stored an error , you would think .
Thanks Z , I still have a lot to learn , especially if I want to help others on the forum , I appreciate you coming in and correcting me , that's what it's all about .
