setting the timing
can anyone help,I'm trying to set the timing on my 81 FXE shovelhead but I can't see the timing marks because of the oil I've bought two different view plugs one doesn't seem any better than the other. Does anyone have any tricks or sudgestions as to what I can do? I sure would apreciate any and all help. THX

Get the mark up in the hole, paint it with that paper white out, let dry good. Screw in clear plug till it touches the flywheels then back it off slightly, start motor and move your head and timing light around till you see the mark with the engine tacking 2000 rpm. If that don't work get a 3/8 oli line cut a 4' piece with one very good flat sealing end to ride on the flywheell wipping off the oil as it turned....shoot the timing lite in the center of the hose and look for your panted advanced line....if it's not there, turn the breakerplate till you see the line in the window.
