Default Overheating Shovel / Timing Issue

My dad's got an '82 FLT Shovelhead that has been getting upwards of 400 degrees on short trips and he's trying to readjust the timing using a timing light. He came to me to help him see the timing marks in the window since my eyes are better than his (supposedly), but I can't see crap!

Anyone got any tricks to see the timing marks in the window as they fly by at rediculous speeds and you have a strobe light going off in your face?

Thanks for the help. Love the old shovelheads.

Are you using the see through timing plug?

Yeah, it's a see-through plug.

Remove the plug and find your mark - remove inspection cover and using paint make your own marks on the compensator/inner primary. Now you can easily use a timing light without oil flying everywhere.
