H-D's factory alarm system is as good as anything on the market.
Especially when paired with the pager. Mine alerted me to thieves twice while on tour.
Sure, you buy insurance for a reason. But if you've ever had a bike stolen, you know how you want to avoid dealing with insurance co's.

That's why I got the siren. Always get a first floor motel room and park outside the door. Won't stop the real pros but it might wake me if someones fooling around.

Or you can do like I do and camp in the desert away from everyone and cary a 45...

Even though I will be keeping my bike in the garage, I will feel more comfortable with the security system for the cost..

my o4 rk has the audible siren. at bike week, the bike will be right outside my tent, and my .40 glock security system will be on stand-by.
the siren was a free add on from the dealer on all of their bikes.

Hmm, didn't know that about the signals (or plain forgot). I did know about the code though. It was entered when I got the bike. I'll have to check out the manual and practice in case I lose the fob.

To speak of the security of the bike though; I've been told that the ignition can be broken by a sufficiently strong guy or a big enough lever. I know that the fork lock is useless. Mine broke a year or so ago. Either someone whacked the front tire when I was parked (most likely) or someone was trying to take it and got scared off. I've been using a disc lock most of the time and two cables when touring wrapped through the tires and in and out of the frame (around the tire, the front downtube, under the seat/above the rear jug and through the rear tire).

Its worth pointing out that the factory security system is not just an alarm - it also immobilises the engine. It won't stop the professional thief, but its a good deterrant and will also give the sort of people who seem to think that they would like to "sit on" your bike a nasty jolt. A friend of mine left his bike parked while he went for a bite to eat, when he came back the bike was on its side. Apparently, some guy had decided to sit on the bike while his girlfriend took a photo of him, the bike tipped over and he legged it. Can you believe the nerve?

Here in the UK, the security system is standard, as is EFI (no choice of carb anymore) and, on my bike the "profile" wheels Its just as well, because I doubt if I could have got insurance on a bike of that value without the alarm system. I do like the way it arms itself about 30 seconds after you switch the ignition off; no sweat if you forget to lock the ignition switch! Can be a bit of a pain when it shouts at you when you polish it too hard, though

I've got the security system, and also Surlock, which is basically a number inscribed on 40 different parts of my bike. It's a good idea, since a professional theif knows it will be much harder to part out my bike, and will hopefully go to an easier sale one.

It's all just a deterrent. If they want it, it's gone.

Problem with the factory program is everyone knows it! I believe all security systems are programed 11111. Any one that has read an owner's manual is able to learn how to override the system. I am still on temp tags and realized immediately that I needed to change the code before I went to sleep the first night.

No siren on my 05, but I will add it before long.
